Chiang Mai Night Bazaar

Nothing beats shopping for a bargain more than in the famous Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai tagged as a shopper’s paradise. About 1 km long on Thanon Chang Khlan, Night Bazaar can be found just on the east side of the old walled city.

If it gets you wondering, the large roads in Thailand are named Thanon while smaller side streets are named Soi so Thanon Chang Khlan translates to Chang Khlan Road. Regardless of the weather from dusk till around midnight, the Night Bazaar is open daily throughout the year. Our friends were here last month and definitely enjoyed the night bazaar.

Chang Khlan Road is a typical street full of shops, hotels, and restaurants of all types during the daylight. On the main street, there are also several large shopping arcades running off. The place really comes alive during night time. As the sun sets over Chiang Mai, expect to witness how busy the street vendors arrived and placed their different merchandise into their stalls.

Upon visiting the Night Bazaar, you’ll able to see a wide variety of designer goods and you can also check out local Thai goods which you can get as a souvenir at affordable prices. It is expected of you to bargain for your purchases which you shouldn’t forget and is all part of the fun experience. In Thailand, bargaining is a sort-of-a national sport. You should always bargain and make an effort to get another at least 20% off the asking price even if the prices appear cheap by your normal standards.

Make sure you check out two other good markets, Kalare Night Bazaar and Asunarm Markets, while you are in the Night Bazaar since these places are offshoots from the main Chiang Mai Night Bazaar. Located about one-third of the way down from the top end of the main Night Bazaar Kalare Night Bazaar is an arcade-style bazaar and while Asunarm Markets can be reached about one-third of the way up from the bottom end of the main Night Bazaar.

Just going for a stroll up and down the Night Bazaar is an amazing experience even if you do not want to buy anything but probably you’ll end up on buying something. It transforms into a place for someone to set up a stall in every open portion of space.

On any visit to Chiang Mai Thailand, Chiang Mai Night Bazaar visit is something not to be missed.
